First Star Griffin Reinhart Edmonton Oil Kings
Griffin Reinhart (NYI 2012 1st) and his Edmonton Oil Kings heard all about how the Calgary Hitmen had their number, beating the Oil Kings in 4 straight meetings. So Griffin Reinhart did what any real team leader would do and that was put his team on his back and carry them to a 4-2 win over the Hitmen on their ice.
Reinhart had a 1-2-3 evening and sparked his team so they could silence the critics at least for a night. In the first period while the Oil Kings were on the power play it was Reinhart who got his team going scoring a power play goal at 7:25 giving Edmonton a 1-0 lead.
It was Reinhart's 4th goal of the season and it helped the Oil Kings grab a 2-0 lead after the first period. Unlike Friday when the Oil Kings blew a 2-0 lead; it was Reinhart who led his teammates.
Reinhart teamed with Michael St. Croix to set up another power play goal to give the Oil Kings a 3-0 lead. That goal was key as Calgary scored twice later in the 3rd period to pull within 1 but Reinhart helped keep the Hitmen from scoring the tying goal and then when Calgary pulled their goalie for the extra attacker; Reinhart set up Dylan Wruck for an empty net goal and a 4-2 win.
For Reinhart the 3 points improved his stas to 4-10-14 for the season.

Robbie Russo (NYI 2011 4th) has been the most improved Islander prospect so far this season. The sophomore for 4th ranked Notre Dame has elevated his game especially on the offensive end including the 2 assists that Russo recorded helping Notre Dame earn a 5-1 win over Michigan State.
Russo had a secondary and a primary to extend his scoring streak to 8 games (2-9-11) and overall to 4-11-15. Courtesy of Notre Dame here is the highlights of the game.
The Rest of the Prospects
Since we have the highlights then might as well take care of Anders Lee (NYI 2009 6th) and Steven Fogarty (NYR 2011 3rd). Lee after being ejected from Friday's game for a "checking from behind" major responded with his team leading 11th goal of the season on 3 shots, a +1 and 14-6 on face offs.
Lee leads Notre Dame with an 11-5-16 on the season. Fogarty broke a 7 game scoreless streak with his 4th goal of the season on shots, was a +2 and 1-2 on faceoffs.
Michael St. Croix (NYR 2011 4th) rebounded from a rough night of his own on Friday to set up what wound up being the game winning goal. St. Croix set up Henrik Samuelsson's power play goal at 9:47 of the 3rd period which gave Edmonton a 3-0 lead in their 4-2 win.
St. Croix is 14-24-38 overall but a very nice 8-11-19 on the power play. That is a stat that hopefully someone tells John Tortorella when St. Croix gets there.
Shane McColgan (NYR 2011 5th) had the secondary assist on his Saskatoon Blade's 5th goal as they stormed all over the Regina Pats 9-0. For McColgan it was his 19th assist and 25th point as the Blades returned to 500 at 14-14-0-1 on the season.
Maybe the Blades need Windsor Plywood to offer to donate $100 per goal to the Saskatoon Food Bank every night. 900 bucks will help feed those needing a helping hand this winter.
In the battle of Islander defensive prospects, Andrey Pedan (NYI 2011 3rd) and his Guelph Storm ruined "Teddy Bear Toss" night with a 8-0 blasting of Adam Pelech's (NYI 2012 3rd) Erie Otters in Erie.
Neither player were much of a factor as both were scoreless and both took a minor penalty. It was a very disappointing and embarrassing loss for Erie who were coming off a big win on Friday.
In a battle of Ranger vs Islander defensive prospects, Samuel Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) and his Baie-Comeau Drakkar posted a 4-0 shutout of Loic Leduc (NYI 2012 4th) and his Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Noreau had a primary and a secondary assist for the Drakkar; it broke a 8 game point drought for Noreau. Noreau improves to 6-14-20 on the season as the Drakkar used the win to jump into 3rd place in the QMJHL.
Leduc and his teammates continue to struggle as the loss extended the Screaming Eagle's winless streak to 9 game (0-8-0-1). Leduc was scoreless, a -1 on 1 shot and a minor for "high sticking."
Brenden Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) was scoreless and a +3 as his Spokane Chiefs dropped their final game of their Eastern road trip to the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3. The Chiefs finish the trip 5-1 as their 9 game unbeaten streak also came to an end.
Brady Skjei (NYR 2012 1st) returned to the lineup for his 5th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers as they played to a 4-4 overtime tie with Colorado College. This one is one that the Gophers have to blame themselves for as they blew a 4-1 lead in the 3rd period.
Skjei was used as the 3rd pair defender was scoreless on no shots and even for the night.
Scott Mayfield (NYI 2011 2nd) and his 6th ranked Denver Pioneers were once again playing with just 10 forwards and this time it caught up to them as they were defeated 6-3 by 9th ranked North Dakota.
Denver as shorthanded as they were had to play a perfect game and they didn't as they fell behind 1-4 and while they closed the gap to 3-4; that was as close as they would get. Mayfield was a -2 but also took a penalty that led to a North Dakota power play goal.
Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) and his Peterborough Petes rallied from down 2 goals to tie their game with the Sudbury Wolves and force overtime. From there they made it to the shootout and while it took 8 rounds, the Petes earned a 5-4 win.
The win gives the Petes a 3 game unbeaten streak (2-0-1-0) as Ceresnak was scoreless in his final game before he leaves for Slovakia to prepare for the World Under-20 Championships.
Finally Cody Rosen (NYI 2010 7th) was in his normal spot on the bench as he watched his Clarkson Knights earn a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence.
